Can connect to wireless but can not connect to internetI am studying overseas at present and the home I am staying in has
wireless internet available. I can connect to the wireless connection but then I can not access the internet (Internet Explorer) and it keeps saying I am offline, even though the signal strength is strong. I am running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed. The connection says I have received 0 bytes when I am connected so I'm guessing this has something to do with it. Can anyone help me? I'm not that comfortable with computers so any instructions will have to be so basic a money could do it. Cheers In news:1158921314.111746.86050@k70g2000cwa.googlegroups.com, sullivan.l***@gmail.com <sullivan.l***@gmail.com> typed:> I am studying overseas at present and the home I am staying in has Do you have an IP address? Cheers ipconfig /all If you do (and it doesn't begin with 169.....), try to ping the default gateway's IP address to see if you get replies. If you can, then try to ping the DNS server IP. If you can, then ping www.google.com or something. If you don't have an IP address, or can't ping the default gateway, check with whomever manages the wireless access point to ensure you're set up properly (encryption such as WEP/WPA, etc., and/or MAC filtering). |
