I am trying to use the telnet command line utility to test connectivity to a
mail server. When I attempt to connect using, "telnet x.x.x.x 25" I immediatly get an message saying, "could not open connection to the host, on port 25:Connect Failed" It seems that its not evening attempting to connect because the error appears immediatley. I know the mail server is operational (I've tried several) and I know they will accept connections from any system. they are internal web servers so there is not network firewall or filtering going. The same command from a non XP machine works fine. The Windows firewall is not running. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. A lot of 'security suites' and antivirus apps have them.
