Bad WFI receptionI have a Centrino Wireless Laptop Computer. At home connection to the
Internet is good in any room, and fair at the patio. Last winter our RV Resort did profie us with free WFI. I was enable to get a good connection at any location with in the park. Some times when in the RV, mail would go through, and the odd time mail went out, if left all day in the out box. The odd time I could connect to the INTERNET, then it was very slow and faded out and in. My nabors on both sides did have no problems. My question is; 1.- Why did I have this problem, while I have a more expensive and newer Laptop than my neighbors? 2.- What can I do to correct this problem? 3.- Is there any kind of accessories that I can hook up to get a better reception? Anny input is greatly appreciated, Thanks Help to boost Laptop WFI reception wrote:

Wifi is a radio connection at a frequency where both ends (your laptop and the wifi access point or router) must be able to see each other (literally). Although radio signals can pass through some things (such as windows or thin sheetrock), other things (like the metal walls of an RV or trees and leaves in an RV resort) are more effective at blocking the signal. Try moving around inside your RV; there may be some spot that works better than others. If you bring your laptop over to your neighbor's location, can you get a better signal? The other thing you can try (other than moving next to wherever the RV Resort has its access point) is to get a better antenna. Unfortunately, I don't know of any built-in wifi adapters that have the ability to connect to an external antenna. That means you would have to either buy a PCMCIA wifi adapter with external antenna connector and an external antenna or you could buy a USB wifi adapter which either has a better antenna or a connector for an external antenna. I don't have any personal experience with this product, but it looks as if it might do the trick for you: http://www.wirelessnetworkproducts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1099 In general, see http://www.wirelessnetworkproducts.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=21 On Mon, 25 Sep 2006 11:41:01 -0700, Help to boost Laptop WFI reception <Help to

More expensive equipment can easily provide lower bandwidth / connectivity issues. And the closer that you are to your neighbours, the more chance for problems. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/05/you-have-to-share-wifi-bandwidth.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/05/you-have-to-share-wifi-bandwidth.html <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/wifi-will-never-be-as-fast-as-ethernet.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/wifi-will-never-be-as-fast-as-ethernet.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
