switch troubleI had a quick look for previous question like this but couldn't find anything - so here goes. I have a laptop and a desktop both running XP pro SP2 , and I wanted to link them together so the laptop could share my desktops wireless web connection. So I bought a Netgear FS605 fast ethernet swtich, and have plugged both PCs in and enabled the connections. Both computers after searching for an IP address are now reporting limited or no connectivity on the relevant connections. What's going wrong? I've tried slowing both network cards down to 10MBps half duplex, and that hasn't helped. ANy ideas would be massively appreciated. Morose Morose wrote:

You merely need to use the existing wireless network. Here are links to help you: Wireless - Basic Configuration - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.html Wireless - Basic Security - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html My New Wireless does not work - http://www.ezlan.net/wireless.html http://www.ezlan.net/#wireless If the laptop is not already informing you that there is a wireless network available, perhaps the wireless adapter is turned off. Refer to the laptop manual for details. Malke Thanks for the reply, sadly my laptop isn't new enough to have a wireless
adaptor... just a bog standard wired one. Since i had the switch lying around i thought i'd take the wired approach. By setting the IP settings manually (see below), I got the connections to show connectivity, but i now get an error whenever i try and enable ICS on the wireless connection on my desktop. It reports an error but gives a null code. I've set the IP settings up as follows: Desktop wireless connection: Automatically assign (IP address of adaptor 192.168.2.4, IP address of wireless router 192.168.2.1 Desktop wired connection: IP address: 192.168.0.1 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default gateway 192.168.0.1 Primary DNS 192.168.0.1 Laptop wired connection: IP address: 192.168.0.2 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default gateway 192.168.0.1 Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1 Any more help would be really appreciated. The switch cannot give you DHCP or DNS. Remove the switch and either connect the laptop directly to one of the router's LAN ports with an ethernet cable or purchase a laptop wireless card and connect wirelessly. Malke
