can't add a computer to a home networkI am trying to add a laptop to a wired home network. I have run the wizard
(several times) and manually changed the workgroup name on the laptop to the home network workgroup, both in the computer name tab and in the network ID. What are you trying to do, and what exactly happens when you do it? Are there any error messages? If so, what do they say? Which wizard did you run? There's a Network Setup Wizard and a Wireless Network Setup Wizard. What answers did you give to the Wizard when it asked about your network setup? Are there firewall programs on any of the computers? Have you configured those programs to allow access by other computers on the network? Given sufficient detail, I'm sure that someone can help. Some questions that may lead you to a solution
Have you assigned the computers IP's in the correct range ? 192.168.0.20, 192.168.0.21, 192.168.0.22 and not a rogue computer in the group as 192.168.1.23 Are they all on the same subnet 255.255.255.0 ? If there is a rogue computer on the network like 192.168.1.23 and the subnet is 255.255.255.0 they will not be able to speak to one another. Is netbios enabled and running on all computers ? Located...lan connection...properties> tcp/ip properties> advanced > wins tab> netbios enabled ? Are all the machines running XP ? Is your laptop fiirewall settings preventing you to connect ?
