Netgear dg834pn losing connection.I have a netgear dg834pn router/modem which is ethernet wired to my desktop
and wifi to my portable. I live in France and my isp is wanadoo/orange. I have a 1mb connection. both machines run XP2 (up tp date) and NIS. The router works fine for periods from hours to days and then suddenly loses connection - thePPP light goes out. The only way to reconnect is to disconnest and then repower the router. Last night i lost connection and repowering would not force a reconnect. During the night it reconnected itself - this is the very first time that it has done that. The netgear kit replaces a LiveBox from wanadoo. I had similar problems with that in that it would occassionally lose connection and need a power reset to reconnect. Wanadoo techies were, as usual, no help at all. Any one have similar problems? Regards, -- peebs Hi
I am not familiar with the specific hardware and the French ISP system. In my neck in the woods (NYC) when one is, using PPPOE DSL it might be an authentication problem. I.e. using a Router and authenticating through software rather than the Router PPPOE setting. Or and IP leasing settings that are set incorrectly in the Router. Jack (MVP-Networking).
