Problems with DNS Suffixa USB modem (Huawei SmartAx MT810) provided by my DSL provider, but I'm not 100% sure it's related to it. My Windows XP laptop started having problems when connecting to the wireless network at work. I can only browse the web for 20-30 seconds after enabling the wireless connection (or restarting the computer). After that, the connection drops. The router is working fine and the DHCP server is assigning a valid IP to the laptop's wireless adapter. The connection works fine when using an ethernet cable as well. I did notice something strange when I type "ipconfig /all", there are 2 lines (the one below WINS Proxy Enabled and the one for the "Connection-specific DNS Suffix") full of garbage as you can see below: C:\Documents and Settings\gab54>ipconfig /all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : gab54-laptop Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Peer-Peer IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No W»^ß┴ºÅ↑^╩X.ß╤╙3^zu╚d¬ΦéN↓List. . . . . . : ╔ÿ╗ù4' Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: W»^ß┴ºÅ↑^╩X.ß╤╙3^zu╚d¬ΦéN↓c DNS Suffix . : ╔ÿ╗ù4' Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-08-02-DE-A2-19 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.103 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.2 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Friday, October 06, 2006 3:25:36 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Saturday, October 07, 2006 3:25:36 PM Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : HP WLAN 802.11a/b/g W500 Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0B-CD-5A-10-8C Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.2 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Friday, October 06, 2006 3:21:41 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Saturday, October 07, 2006 3:21:41 PM I have already uninstalled the software for the modem, but the problem continues. Can I change the node tobe something other than peer-peer? Sorry, I don't really know much about this. Thanks.
