Network PasswordsHi,
I'm on a large university network and would like to have shared folders that can only be accessed by people with the correct username and password. I don't want people just taking files from me and am wondering how I set it up so that they find me in the 'View Network Computers' area of 'My Network Places' and then when they double click my PC they have to enter a username/password. I don't mind if the username is an autolisted one, as I have set up a spare account for this use, but don't know how to make it work. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition if that makes it easier for people to help me. Thanks, Rob On Sun, 8 Oct 2006 09:25:01 -0700, Rob <R**@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote:

What's accessible by anybody on the network is accessible by all. You'll have to upgrade to XP Pro. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Guest> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Guest -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
