Can only share admin and share foldersHi,
I've got 3 windows XP home pc's setup the same (I thought). I'm admin on all 3 and we can share files ok in the shared folder on each pc. I can share other files in my folders on any of the pc's. But the limited users (the kids!) can't share any individual folders or files in their personal areas. The network can see them but nobody can access them. We get access denied message. This should be possible shouldn't it. Is there a way to restore all file shares back to how they should. I think I've tried that many thimgs now I've forgotton what I've done. thanks in advance. Not without extra work. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Guest> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Guest -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. My email is AT DOT actual address pchuck mvps org. Thanks Chuck I'll have a read. But.....
How come the button is there on a folder for a limited user to turn on "Share this folder" if Microsoft won't allow it. I'm sure they would disable it if it wasn't possible. How come I've never read anything in the help that says you can't do it. How come people keep mentioning Guest account - it says nothing in help and tutorials on networking. How come you mention "simple file sharing" isn't that an option in MS XP Pro? How come I (admin) can share a folder from my personal stuff and it becomes visible on the home network. Guest authentication for network access. Guest just doesn't have permissions to allow it to read personal folders thru the network. As far as what you have or haven't read, I can't say. Guest authentication for network access. Guest just doesn't have permissions to allow it to read personal folders thru the network. If you have XP Pro, then you can disable SFS and add common non-Guest accounts on all computers, properly activated. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Advanced> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Advanced As far as what you have or haven't read, I can't say.
