Hi:  (2 questions)

I have a wireless router connected to a cable modem. I have the network
locked so that you have to know the code to connect.  I created a workgroup
and connected 3 laptops and the PC wirelessly.

I shared some folders on the PC. Are my shared folders safe from Internet
access?

Second question, if my daughter is in a dorm and connected to the net can
she connect to my home network?

Thank you very much.

Bob

yeh,

1) the firewall (when configured properly) will prevent
outsiders from entering

2) your daughter can connect to your network with
something like "simple desktop" or "logmein" software
loaded on both machines. these servers will allow
you to create a workgroup over the net.
the software will also configure the
firewall as well. you can google for thier
http's.

by the way,
in regards to the first inquiry:
as long as your computers are connected to the router,
the broadband modem does not have to be turned on, thus
giving you that added security from the internet while
home-networking...
