Suddenly Linksys routers cannot connect to internet - cable modem works fine!phone adapter/router. Today, all of a sudden, I can no longer connect to the internet wirelessly via my laptop OR from the PC where I have an ethernet cable plugged into a port on the router. I called Vonage and they said it seemed defective and are shipping me a new router. HOWEVER, I tried plugging in my old Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router and I have the same connectivity problems. If I connect the PC directly to the cable modem I can access the internet fine, but not when connected through the router. The router lights are all on and look correct. It also gives me the proper DHCP-based IP address and I can access the Router Admin page from the browser. I've tried releasing/renewing the DHCP. I've tried resetting the TCP/IP stack. I've also upgraded the firmware on the BEFW11S4. I have McAfee Security Center running and I disabled that, thinking that was the issue, but that didn't help either. I even tried doing a System Restore to yesterday and that still didn't work, so I have no idea what to do next. This is killing me. On 10 Oct 2006 14:03:45 -0700, rgru***@yahoo.com wrote:

This is killing me. What was the exact error or problem observed? <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/background-information-useful-in.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/background-information-useful-in.html Any chance DNS was the problem? I ask because a large amount of USA broadband customers were without service, because of DNS problems, today. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/05/identifying-dns-problem-in-your.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/05/identifying-dns-problem-in-your.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. This is killing me. > (through the cable modem) rather than your PCs not communicating with your routers. Check your router's WAN configuration. Did you have a power surge or something else that might have caused a partial reset? If your cable ISP ties your access to a particular MAC address (the MAC address of your PC, for example), and you had used the "clone MAC address" feature of the router, perhaps that somehow got reset. Check the MAC address of your router and compare to the MAC address of the PC that worked when directly connected. While you're at it, you might also check the router's WAN status info to see if it's receiving an IP address from your ISP and has the proper DNS server and gateway IPs. -- Lem MS MVP -- Networking To the moon and back with 64 Kbits of RAM and 512 Kbits of ROM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Guidance_Computer
