Hi all,

I have two machines:

A: XP Pro with wireless (wireless part works fine)
    no updates, no firewall

B. XP Home with a wire (wire works fine.
All updates to date including SP2.

Problem: XPP can see XPH fine but when I try
to highlight workgroup name in XPH is says I
don't have access rights.  Guest is turned on,
both compuers are logon id's that are the same,
the registry hack M$ suggests is set correctly,
no firewalls in place, what am I missing?
Workgouip name is "office" on both computers.
Both us dhcp successfully, both connected
through the same WRT54G.

thanks,
charles....

Charles,

The error message "access denied" or similar is very versatile in origin.

One of the most common cause would be a misconfigured or overlooked personal
firewall, or other security component. There are several other possibilities
too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this article with an open
mind.

For more direct help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem.  Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

thanks for the feedback.   the computers in question
just got moved to another house so I can't try it
right away, but I will read the links you provided
and will get back to you when I can experiment with
the two computers.  no firewalls in place so that
should eliminate the first hurdle.
