Accessing a hidden shared fileI've created a hidden shared file and mapped it on my computer. I need to
have someone else on the network use this file as well so do I have to map that drive on their computer also or should they be able to access it from browsing the network? Thanks. newtechie In news:ujNwmmh7GHA.4348@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl, Newtechie <newtechie@nospam.com> typed:> I've created a hidden shared file Meaning, a hidden share?> and mapped it on my computer. However, if you have given them the appropriate permissions, they can use \\computername\hiddenshare$\ and open it that way. Or is the file itself hidden? If the file is hidden, the share that it's in may be visible (if not a hidden share). -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. question and I'm sorry if I was unclear about something in my message but I created a folder and made it a hidden share instead of the just having the file inside it a hidden share. I was just trying to confirm if I had to map it on his computer and it looks like I do. I followed the instructions at http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/filesharing.htm but it was a little confusing to me. Thanks again.
