re:How to add a new computer to network to transfer dataMy husband was the computer guru in my family but he died 8 weeks ago. I
just received a new XPS 410 E 6300 to replace his 8400 that was not running properly. I have my 8300 and his 8400 networked together. I need to transfer from the old computer to new computer but I think I have to add new one to network first. I am so lost and don't know where to begin. I also have to get the old one back to Dell in 2 weeks. Can someone please help me in very simple language. I want to save his information and get it set up the way it was when he did it. Hi
Sorry for your lose. You can network two computers to share files, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040 You cannot transfer Applications and Programs; you can only transfer informational files (like music, documents, and pic.). Some configuration and settings can be transfered as well by a professional person who knows well the issues involved. You do not need the go back two weeks ago; the files are on the hard drive regardless of the date. If the content of the old computer is important, you should seek professional help, given you level of knowledge you might loose valuable information. Jack (MVP-Networking). How much data is there to transfer? There are other methods that may
be easier to use than adding it to a network. Also, is this a home network? Please give some more parameters. Sorry about your loss.
