Internet connection hangsWindows XP Professional ( SP2 ) ADSL USB modem I have a problem with my internet connection. Sometimes, few hours after I establish my connection, the connection hangs. It does not dissconnect. Just hangs. I cannot dissconnect and sometimes I cannot even bring up the status window. In order to connect again, I must either reboot or go to the control panel of the USB modem, stop ADSL ( which will also kill all connections using it by force ), then start it again and reconnect. I've contacted the ISP but they seem not to understand what's going on. To them, I appear as connected; at least until I stop ADSL and kill the connection myself. I've used all available drivers for my USB modem. Also no help. My research showed that there are many having exactly the same problem but none of the posts I read, had a proper answer. The problem also seems to appear to people using routers, so I don't think this can be a solution either. I've also checked the event logs. Nothing strange there, other than the sudden inability of programs using the connection ( like MSN Messenger etc ) to access the internet. Any ideas? There are hundreds of similar posts round the web. There must be a solution. PS 1: I'm using the firewall of Windows. PS 2: I'm using Norton AntiVirus but I installed this after I first established my ADSL connection. The problem already existed. PS 3: I've had a full system scan for viruses more than once and auto protect is on. -- Perikles C. Stephanidis Hi
