using %username% in rdp file

I know that remote desktop doesn't allow pass-through authentication, but if
I could at least get the current username to appear in the window, that would
help.
I have seen on the web people using %username% in an rdp file, but when I
put it in, it doesn't calculate the variable, it literaly puts "%username%"
in the username box.  Ok, that's too many times to type the word username.
Darn, I did it again.
Any suggestions?

Are you aware that %username% is referred to as a placeholder?  It indicates
that the actual username is to be inserted.

Sorry I got the terminology wrong, but regardless, inserting the username is
exactly what I want to do.  I want to use this is a lab environment, so I
can't use a specific username in the file.  I use %username% in logon scripts
to map drives, why can't I use it within an rdp file?  Especially, when other
people have claimed to have used it?
Thanks,
aboyer
