File sharing problem with XP home network

Hi,

I am having a problem sharing a folder on my PC so that another PC on
the network can access it.

I am using simple file sharing and have checked the "Share this folder
on the Network" check box.

The remote computer is denied access with an error message saying they
don't have permission to access the folder.

However if I tick the "Allow network uses to change my files" check
box then they are able to access the folder.

Ideally I would like to give read-only access to this folder which is
a sub-folder of "My Documents" but it appears I can only either grant
full access or none at all.  The "My Documents" folder is not shared

My PC is running XP Pro, the remote PC XP Home.  Both are in the same
workgroup based network.

Anyone got any suggestions as to how can give read-only access to a
sub-folder of "My Documents" on my network?

Do I need to switch off simple file sharing and do something else
configuration-wise?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what is allowed
to be shared.
