document folder is slow to open

I recently added a dedicated server to our network and transferred the entire
contents of My Documents to the server. I have mapped a drive to the folder
on the server on my personal computer and changed the My Documents Folder to
open that drive. There is a significant delay now, whenever i open my
documents. Longer than opening even a subfolder of my documents. It seems to
be synchronizing every time i log off as well.
The server is running Windows 2003 Small Business. I am running WIndows XP
Professional on a dimension e310 that is a couple months old. I log into the
domain. A different computer on the same domain is significantly faster.
Thanks.
