I have high speed at home. What I would like to do,  is go to my sons house
and use his modem to dial up my machine to get on the net. I did not know if
VPN would do the trick. Both machines are home with sp1. This is a prodject
we want to try, but if not possible, I don't want to waist time. Thanks.

No!
With that configuration you can't get high speed internet from your sons
computer.
