Problems with ICSI have some trouble setting up ICS. After reinstalling my system because of some serious damage to the filesystem i wanted to set up my private network. My computer is connected to a public campus LAN through a standard onboard-NIC. I'd like to activate ICS for that NIC so i can share this computer's internet connection to some other devices like my laptop and some bluetooth gadgets. So far i just had to set up the ICS for this NIC and everything worked fine. Now here comes the problem: ICS is not available for this NIC. It's not even "greyed out", it's simply gone. I tried telling the "Network Setup Wizard" that this NIC is connected to the internet, and THIS ICS should be able to share its connection. After showing me some nice animations the wizard jut tells me, that he was unsuccessful: "Cannot Complete the Network Setup Wizard An error occured during configuration of the network on this computer. You can configure your network manually, or you can run the wizard again with different settings." (I'd love to configure everything manually, but as already mentioned, ICS is gone.) Are there any possibilities or configurations, that i've not considered? Maybe there's some registry hack, which may release the ICS-blockade for this NIC? Regards Pawel PS: My computer also has a firewire device. The odd thing about that: ICS is fully available for the firewire device. > I have some trouble setting up ICS. The Internet connection can't be bridged. The home network connection must be enabled and connected. internet and may not permit ICS. ICS may not be activated if there's only one "LAN or High-Speed Internet"-adapter (etehernet) and one "Personal Are Network"-adapter (bluetooth) present. I had to install a second ethernet card and ICS could be activated through the wizard. Now it's even possible to use ICS through the PAN-device if i deactivate the second ethernet adapter and assign its TCP/IP-settings to the bluetooth device. Regards Pawel Pawel - appreciate the feedback - one of the "disappointments" with
newsgroups is lack such responses. My computer receives internet via wireless network card and I'm connected to a second machine via ethernet cable. Is there any other way to enable the option to share internet without adding any more adapters? Any help would be appreciated. In article <2722D86D-2771-493F-AD3D-813652C44***@microsoft.com>, Cale

There are two or more network connections: one for the Internet, and one or more for the home network (LAN). The home network connection can use wired Ethernet, wireless Ethernet, IEEE 1394 (FireWire), or Bluetooth, or it can be a network bridge. It can't use a serial or parallel port. With more than one enabled home network connection, there will be a box asking you to specify which one to use for the home network. 2. The home network connection(s) must be enabled and connected. 3. The Internet Connection Firewall (XP RTM and SP1) must be disabled on the home network connection. 4. The Internet connection must not be bridged. I don't think this will stop the ICS sharing option from appearing, but there will be problems if the Internet connection's IP address is in the 192.168.0.x range. If it is, change it to another range, such as 192.168.1.x. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
