Change DNS settingsI'm on the road and my son called me up and said every time he opens IE, a
page from our ISP appears saying they changed their DNS servers and the NIC DNS setting should be set to "Obtain DNS server address automatically". OK, no problem there. He followed the directions to get to the TCP/IP settings for the NIC but when he hits properties, he's getting an error msg that says something like "you must install a network card". Hmmm... it's a wireless card in a desktop running on XP Home. The card is working, he can get to a couple of web sites. Anyone seen this wacky error msg? Any tips? I'm stumped. Thanks, Lang Hi
Might be that the Card drivers are in trouble. First check this, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost Uninstall the Wireless card drivers (and or ghost drivers), disable internal card (or take it out if it is PCMCIA). Boot one time without a Wireless card disabled. Switch off, be ready with the card's drivers and boot again with the Wireless card in (On). Check again for ghost, and hopefully it would be working. OK, that's a little more than I can expect my son to do. And, thanks for the suggestion. Would the "ghost" NIC show up in Device Manager? Or Network Connections?
