What network cable should I choose?I would like to set up a wired network at home (across walls) with the best
type of cable possible, trying to delay any future works and having good performance already. Could anybody tell me what cable to choose? I was thinking about CAT 7 (10 gigabit Ethernet) altough I am not sure if it's commercialy available for small consumers and if it's complety compatible with current plugs in the computers. What about the choice between CAT 5e, CAT 6 or even CAT 6a? What would you choose? golfinho05 wrote:

and Noble and review some reference material. faster than even SATA drives are today, so why spend the bucks when it is gonna be several years before anything can take full advantage of the available speed in a gigabit network. Cat 5e Handles Gigabit fine and so far my limitations are the drive throughput and bus speeds, have esperimented with minigbics and fiber still have similar throughputs as gigabit wired. I am all about speed but also why spend money with no beneift. CAT5e is adequate for anything today and tommorrow especially only using two pcs. available thought this way. When wiring a building you have to expect the building will still be in use 20 years from now. You have no way of predicting what cable may be needed next year let alone 20 years from now.
