Connected to LAN with no Local Area ConnectionPrevious related thread - "can't access outside world" Original thread was because I cound not access the net or email through my cable modem or analog. Both now work. However, I still have a LAN problem(?) and was directed to start this new thread. I am going to list a number of things I know to be wrong/unusual and hope someone can find a common cause. Network PC connected to router by cable cable modem connected to router by cable laptop connected to network wirelessly network drive (Netgear) connected to router by cable Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : omitted Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : router Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : router Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-11-11-02-8E-E3 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.2 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Thursday, October 26, 2006 3:12:14 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Friday, October 27, 2006 3:12:14 PM Network Connections - When I try to modify the network settings, there are none. Network Connections is empty. But my PC can still access the net through my cable modem and still access my Network drive. Internet Options - Connections - all choices are grayed out (Never dial, Dial whenever, Always dial). MS Explorer - when I open Explorer, 'My Computer' is collapsed. When I click on it, it takes 2-3 minutes (I time it) for a list of drives to appear (internal - partitioned and network drive). If I expand and immediately collapse, I get another 2-3 minute wait. Once my drives are visible, I can access folders/subfolders only by selecting them from the left hand column. If I click on a folder in the right column, I get a popup that looks like a command prompt - appears but closes in 1-2 seconds. Explorer can access my network drive with no problems on my laptop. MS install - at one point, I tried to install XP on another partition - XP startup complains the drive is not formatted correctly. Disk Management - server execution failed Norton Firewall - won't run. Tells me I don't have privileges. SaveAs - if I try to save a fle and change folders for a new destination, I get the same 2-3 minute wait. MS Outlook - on every bootup, it tells me I need to install a feature - the feature is registering Outlook. I then get a popup telling me I am registered but go through the same process next bootup. All I remember right now. Guidance please. old guy wrote:

Application Warning - Event ID 4356 - "COM+ Event System failed to create an instance of the subscriber partition xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx." System Error Event ID 10010 - "The server xxxxxxxxxxxxx did not register with DCOM" - many of these in a row System warning - Event ID 4 - "Adapter Intel(R) PRO/100V Network Connection: Adapter Link down" - 1st time I've seen this one System Warning - Event ID 1003 - "You computer was not able to renew its address from the netwrk (from the DHCP server) for the network card" - 1st time I have seen this one System Warning - Event ID 36 - "The time service has not been able to synchronize the system time" I have looked up most of these errors but the explanations/resolutions are a little above my expertise. Hope this helps. old guy wrote:
