the internet drops out intermittedly. I ran a netsh diag and there were 2
failed items. One was the network card and the other DNS failed.

But the dns address it was showing wasn't the router /gateway I normally see
in ipconfig etc., it was an external dns address I believe is the isp's.

I reboot router and get internet back and dns is back to 192.168.1.1

What? Why is this?

That address 192... is not your ISP:  It's the computer-side address on your
switch/router/whatever - the computer you are on.  Try
http://whatismyip.com/ to see your external IP.  It's quick, fast and easy.
