winsock provider catalog error

Hi,

I am just a casual user with no major technical knowledge.  I use
Firefox 1.5x.  Lately my browser has been failing to load pages
correctly.  Sometimes I click on a link and a blank page is loaded
(totally blank, no error links) and the status message at the bottom
says done.  Well, I downloaded the new internet explorer and when ie
loads a blank page, I am given an option to "dianose network problems.
I did this and what ie comes up with is that my "winsock provider
catalog needs to be reset to default configuration."  So I do this,
reboot, and then all is fixed until I browse for a little while.  Once
again, same thing happens.  I was wondering if any of you are familiar
with this problem and if so, would you have any suggestion?  Any help
much-appeciated,

--steve
