Two computers, an XP desktop and a 2000 laptop. Both connect to a
remote server. The ISP we have to use is admittedly slow at times and I
think those delays are what causes the desktop to loose connection,
randomly, after anywhere from 1 minute to a half hour. The laptop right
next
to it can do the same connection for hours with rare problems. I'm
betting there's some registry setting for some timeout that is the
difference. Anybody have a clue?

Thanks, I will try experimenting with MTU but I suspect that's not it.
All the info I've seen on the MTU question say you get the black screen
effect. We don't. We can work remotely for a short time or a long time
and then in the middle of working an error message pops up that says
the connection is lost. When we reconnect our session is waiting for
us. This is not VPN, if that matters. Also the info I've seen says XP
and 2000 have the same default MTU yet in our case the 2000 system
stays connected but the XP system doesn't.
