Promted for username & password when accessing network folderSP2) can access. This worked fine for the last 2 years. All of a sudden users are now prompted for usernames & passwords. Regardless of the login credentials you supply, it refuses to authenticate the user. I have read through the other posts I could find for similar scenarios, but none were very helpful in resolving my issue. I have checked all of the IP settings, on both clients and the DC. I have checked user accounts and permissions as well as the actual sharing permissions on the folders, and everything seems to be in order. Our folders are set up to allow the DOMAIN Administrator access, but even this is not working. I have tried accessing the server in the following ways: 1. Start -> Run ->\\servername\sharedfolder 2. Start -> Run ->\\servername 3. Browsing through My Network Places. I can see the server but cannot access it without being prompted for login info. I am out of ideas at this stage. Thanx in advance L Hi Lucifer,
Are you running any login scripts or client policies on your DC? How are the groups setup in your AD? Are all your users in one group or did you split them into various groups with different permitions? Are your workstations part of the Domain or in a seperate workgroup? Some guys set it up this way. Don't ask me why. In any way I'm just trying to get a feel for your setup. MC. Currently we do not run any login scripts, and the only policies we enforce is for internet config settings, WSUS updates and restrictions to certain ..exe files. We do have some security groups, but nohting which will directly affect shared files, these are just for internet proxy ACLs. All of the workstations are joined to the same domain. One thing I did notice just now, was that some users can connect to the shared folders from certain machines, but not from other machines. I also checked the File Sharing sessions on the DC, and it seems that the user is successfully authenticated, but then loses authentication almost immediately. Each time I try to open a shared folder a "SUCCESSFUL" logon/logoff event is entered in the event log. This is strange, don't you think? Are there any error messages on the DC or the workstation relating to logons or security / access permitions? If there are can you post them here please. server. Sometimes this arises if the network card driver gets auto-updated and its settings are lost as a result. I've also seen one case where a second, unused network card activated itself of its own accord, and took over the default route. Other thing to check is for time differences. Kerberos auth depends on clocks being synchronised within about 5min. While it may see strange that computer-logon still works, It may be that the users are logging-in with cached credentials and not seeing the domain-controller at all.
