Disconnected Newtwork DrivesHello, I am an extreme novice at networking issues and am at my wits end
here. Our company changed service provider's yeasterday, and everyone had to type in a new SMTP for outgoing mail. The whole office had no problem--except for me! The SMTP thing worked because I have email, I have internet, but I can no longer access the network drives. I am Windows XP SP2 and the Server is Win 2000. It shows a disconnected drive, and I can't get there no matter what I try. I can ping the server, but if I try to go there from the command line, it says, Access Denied. Also, if I try to get there from Network Places, it hangs up for a bit and then gives an error to check permissions. I have added every permission on the Server I know to add. What can I do? I have found that I can access the Network drives if I boot in safe mode with networking. It seems to me that maybe I have something that needs to be deleted from the logon script, but I have not been able to find where the logon script is, or where it loads from. This is a huge nightmare. Thanks for any help. Tim Tim,
If you have outgoing mail SMTP access then I would imagine you have IC ping TCP/IP connectivity as well.. But maybe not. 1) Your work fellows have local shared (i guess) drive access and they also have internet access so the problem lies with your connections - non local. We need more info... Can you post your ipconfig and networking environment up here. I.e. what do you connect to?? Shared drives?? Active Directory?? etc please email me on dclegh***@gmail.com

Check this first, it's a very common problem. Inexplicably it sometimes gives no probs when drives disconnect, yet other times it does. The setting needs to be adjusted in the server registry, and then the server restarted. Oh, and check under the network card's propertes for power-saving options.
Turn them off if you find them. These are often defective. (applies to server and clients)
