LAN ConstructionI recently created a home network for a friend. It involved two PC on WinXP
and an HP all-in-one printer working thru an ethernet bridge (not a switch). Nothing very sophisticated about the setup - each of the computers are single user - no passwords required, etc. All went well except when completed one of the computer continues to get this 'obscure' dialog 'popup' each time the computer awakes stating 'This computer is locked' enter a password.' There is no action required and simply pressing <enter> makes the dialog go away and the system proceeds. I searched high and low for the source of this message and can't seem to find it's cause. It began as a result of constructing the network. Any ideas? RFM Software Solutions-Indy On Thu, 9 Nov 2006 17:30:02 -0800, sam224 <sam***@discussions.microsoft.com>

It began as a result of constructing the network. Under Control Panel - Power Options - Advanced, you'll find the setting "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby". So there's the popup itself. Now, have you set a non blank password for the account, when the computer starts up? If the account in use has no password, and the popup comes up, pressing Enter without entering a password should indeed make the dialogue go away. If there's no password on the account, it would be meaningless to enter one when asked for it. -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
