Why are Word (2003) NOT transferrable as attachment ?

It occured several times that when I attached a Word 2003 document to an eMail this document
was NOT readable at the recipients side.

Other colleagues reported the same problem.

When I zipped the document resp. converted it to pdf there was no problem reading it.

Do other users noticed the same problem ?
What is the reason ?

Are there curious control characters inside ?

Wolfgang

How do you mean "not readable"? What happens when the recipient tries to
open it?

Lots of cross-posts, all of them inappropriate. State which
mail client you use (Outlook? Outlook Express?), then post
your question in that newsgroup.

Hi Wolfgang,

The problem may be the format the file was saved in. Different
versions of Word used slightly different formats. If you are sending
the document as a Word 2003 native format, and your recipient only
has Word 97 installed, they might not be able to read the file.

The easiest solution is to have the recipients install the FREE Word
2003 viewer (they can view but not edit the document)

Personally, I won't open a Word document that is sent to me since it
could have malicious macros or scripts embedded in it. I send and
accept PDF files only.

Ciao . . . C.Joseph
