Network MonitoringI need some help monitoring what is going on with the bandwith on our
network. We have about 5 or so computers all linked up to the same router and I want to know which ones are "hogging" the internet bandwith and network resources via the server. Does anyone know of a program that will let me do this, or at least point me in the right direction? I have had a look at the web but got confused pretty quickly ;-) Thanks, Paul. Hi
Using peer-to-peer Network with Entry Level Router does not provide the means to centrally monitor the Network. You need a managed switch, or put a Network monitoring application on each computer. I don't know what kind of router you have, but my SonicWall allows me to log in to it at http://192.168.1.1 and it has a reporting feature that allows me to monitor bandwidth usage by IP address. It also allows me to see the list of web sites that my users are connecting to. On second reading I notice that you mentioned the word server. If your Network is build around a real server OS (like Windows 2003) there might be software solution that can be installed on the Server (example: http://www.softperfect.com/products/bandwidth/ ) If you provide more details on the "makeup" of your network it might be that someone can provide a better answer.
