Switched Windows XP Professional x64, and cannot get internet to wnormal 32-bit version, and since then havent been able to get a real connection working. All I get in Network Connections is it saying it is a 1394 connection that is connected at 400.0 Mbps and that it's allways connected, even when the cable is on my other comp (this one), it allways says no packets sent and none received although it also sites that it has been connected(and still thinks it is) after 11 and one half hours. Tried unhooking the modem for 40 secs and pluging back in. Went into properties and reset the TCP/IP I belive. Tried to make a new connection everyway that I could think of with the connection wizard, but to no avail.Even called Charter but said that they didd'nt have enough info on 64-bit to help me! So I thought I would come here. Umm lets see I installed the OS off of a boot dvd disc with the ISO file burnt onto it, it made a new partition for 64-bit version I belive because I now have C: and I: drive, C: has all the info it did before. Anyone have any info on the 64-bit and what I could do to get it working again? ty Jeremy williams. Hi
1394 is the Network Firewire connection. You lost your Eherent LAN connection. My guess would be that the Network Card drivers are not 4bit compatible. Find 4bit driver for your card, uninstall the ghost (if there is one, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost ) from the device manger and try to Re-Install the 64bit drivers. Jack (MVP-Networking). The New Connection Wizard won't help -- it doesn't have the ability to create a local area network connection. Windows XP should automatically detect the computer's Ethernet adapter and create a LAN connection for it. Since it apparently didn't do that, go to Device Manager, look under Network Adapters, and see what's there. The problem could be that XP Pro can't find a 64-bit driver for your computer's Ethernet adapter. You might be able to download that driver from the Internet using XP Pro 32-bit or another computer. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups. Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Program http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Tks guys, I will try shortly booting in 32-bit and seeing if I can find it,
ty vm, will report laters. I uninstaled my driver while in 32-bit mode, just realized many hours later
why that could be a terrible thing it could of been to do that. searched for hours on the internet for a match for my "Intel(R) Pro 1000/PL Network Connection" only to find mostly fake sites trying to get me to buy their program to be able to download the driver for my adapter. When I finnaly got one that was supposed to be close to the version of my driver and downloaded it ,I did not know how to install it, spending most of the time researching today how to do these things but allways failing. I tried to do the simple update driver thing in the device manager, but to no avail(tried in both 32 and 64 bit versions, but could not try in 64 because it will not recognize my adapter and would not show it so that I could try to update it, only the 1394 one) ,allways saying that mine was the most up to date versiosn of the driver. the version was 9.3.39.0 and it said on the interner that it did provide what was needed for 64-bit. So now I am back at square one, just with my 32-bit missing icon picutures after I uninstalled, and then rolled back to a different date to get it back lol. Dont know what else to try... tks for original help though. Also finnally I found the driver that I had and looked it up, it said that
