XP Pro set up to accept incomming VPN connectionsI'm trying to set up a computer running XP Pro to accept incomming VPN
connections. Right now the only option in the connection wizard is to accept connections over the parallel port. I would like to connect over ethernet, is that possible? Thanks, Dan. In article <367735AA-8FA7-4E99-B265-D8B5D14A3***@microsoft.com>,

Don't check any of the boxes under "Connection devices". 2. Select "Allow virtual private connections". -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups. Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Program http://mvp.support.microsoft.com thanks, I can get a VPN connection to a tower on the same network that I am
on, using NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS compatible transport protocol, but when I try to use the TCP/IP Protocol I get error message 733. I would like to access this tower from outside the network, will I need to use TCP/IP to do this? and how do I figure out which port the VPN uses so I can configure the router to send incomming calls to this tower? If there isn't a DHCP server to make the assignment automatically, right-click the incoming connection, click Properties > Networking > Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties, and specify a range of two private addresses. Assign a static IP address to the tower's LAN connection. Configure the router to forward port 1723 TCP to that address, and/or enable PPTP Passthrough (GRE Protocol 47). -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups. Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Program http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Alright, I've got my laptop connecting to the my Tower using TCP/IP (PPTP),
when I'm on the same network. But I cannot connect from outside the network. I use the router's WAN IP address. I've configured the router's virtual server to redirect to the tower's IP address, using port 1723 TCP and I am receiving error 721. Any suggetions? Take a look at some of those. You might also post your question in news group microsoft.public.windowsxp.work_remotely. If you do, be sure to mention what make/model of router you're using and what type of Internet connection you're using from outside your network. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
