Thank you for reviewing this post.  I know, I know, AOL is normally personal
non grata around these parts, but it is germain to my question.

I have a neighbor who has a nice new Dell machine and has updated to IE7 as
soon as the machine came out of the box.  IE7 and Firefox both work just
fine.  However, and I cannot explain why, he likes to use AOL to surf the net
(familiarity, I believe).  He says that when he gets on AOL it is
excruciatingly slow.  I have changed his IE settings for him as per other
posts in this area about checking for page updates and reducing disk space
for TIF to 150M versus default of 250M.  This did not change the slowness of
AOL.

What might be causing this and how might I help him solve it short of
telling him to ditch the AOL, which is not a viable solution at this point?

Thank you so very much for your time and response(s).

Kindest regards,

Don in Tucson

I've been an AOL user for years and years till a few weeks ago when the
phone company installed FIOS in my area. I finally ditched AOL.

The first thing I'd check is the CPU utilization, which sometimes run
extremely high when one of their processes go wild. It's normally a resource
hog even when running OK. I had the system ground to a halt because AOL
processes hogged 100% of the CPU.

Yes, I know you've said that ditching AOL is not viable, but that is the
solution.

You shouldn't have to re-work your system to make AOL's network work.
