Connection delayUsing dialup with a 56k modem. Periodically, after a connection to the i-net
is made, the home page (blank page) will take 4 minutes to render. During this time, I can ping addresses from the command line, but do not get a response from the ipconfig command. I can work with an open application, but cannot open any windows, including taskmanager, I'm thinking that there is a communication problem between the modem and the CPU. I'll probably get a new modem, but what could be causing the problem? Hi paulibus. What modem do you have? I'm using a Fujitsu Siemens laptop
with a Smart Link 56K internal modem and have been experiencing the same problem every time I connect using the internal modem. When using my 3G cellphone there is no delay at all. The quickest solution would be to check for spyware, virusses, etc. Windows Defender and Spybot S&D are free spyware removal tools you can try. Also try getting the latest driver for your modem. If none of this works then borrow a friends modem, just to test that the modem really is the problem before you buy another one. Good luck. P.S. If you happen to know where to get the latest driver for Smart Link soft modems, please tell me. I have already tried Smart Link's website, but they haven't published updated drivers for my modem since 2003. I have now downloaded the old driver (same version as the one originally
installed) for my modem from the Fujitsu Siemens website. I uninstalled the modem driver then installed the one downloaded from Fujitsu. After restarting I have had no dialup problems yet. Maybe this will solve your problem. Thanks for responding. There are some Smart Link drivers available at
www.driversguide.com. You have to register, but it's no big deal. For my problem, I'll try going back to the original driver and see if that takes care of it. P.
