Hi

Any advice/suugestions on how to reslove the following would be appreciated:

1 of my pc's crashed on the network & lost connections. Have now got it
working on the network but if, at the command promt I try to ping
google.co.uk the message returned is 'Ping request could not find host
google.co.uk ... If instead I ping 66.249.93.104 [the IP address for
google.co.uk ] I receive a reply.

What is the problem and how can it be resolved.

PC is using XPP SP1

TIA

Tom,

I'd check "ipconfig /all" for the problem computer and for a couple others, and
compare the DNS server setup.

If ipconfig doesn't give a clue, check for LSP / Winsock corruption.  Be
persistent here.

Many thanks for reply.

On the problem pc was unable to use the network wizard & had to set the IP
address manually. Using ipconfig /all I note that DNCP is not enabled. How
can it be enabled?

Tom,

Are you using the TCP/IP properties wizard?
In most cases, you'll use automatic (dynamic) settings.
    * Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
    * Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.

Chuck

Have had to set IP manually. If I try to set automatically it config s the
address commencing 169. whereas my network commences 10.10.10.xx. Hence DHCP
is not enabled

OK, Tom,

Let's try and help us to advise you intelligently.  Provide "ipconfig /all", and
a good description, of each computer, please.  Read each tutorial, and follow
links where you have any questions.
