Cannot connect to JUST ONE Web site / IP addressProblem: I cannot connect to, or even PING, just 1Web site -- my power
company! -- but can connect to everything else. And, the other computer on my small home network connects with no problem to the same IP address. Network: DSL connection, wired/wireless router, 2 computers running Windows XP sp2. Wired computer can ping and connect with no problem; wireless computer cannot. PING times out. I've checked all firewall and other security-related settings and see no explanation. Thanks for any suggestions! -Doug Dougbert wrote:

Start with your firewall log and then the Event Viewer and look for errors or hints there. Are you using a HOSTS file? Anything there? Pop` The firewall log (after I enabled it) shows entries like this when I try to
connect to http://www.pse.com, Puget Sound Energy...the only site I'm having trouble with, and it only stopped working recently. 2006-11-23 13:36:11 DROP TCP 72.32.10.178 192.168.1.2 80 3631 40 R 0 0 0 - - - RECEIVE 2006-11-23 13:38:23 DROP TCP 72.32.10.178 192.168.1.2 80 3692 40 R 0 0 0 - - - RECEIVE I did install a new driver for my network card within the last 2 weeks, but it seems strange that a driver setting would prevent connection to a single site when I'm not having any other issues. Thanks! -Doug Dougbert wrote:

OK. Keep the log running and check it now and then. You can Clear it now > -Doug and then too if nothing new is showing up, to save space. Instead of using the text address (http://www.pse.com), try using this instead: http://72.32.10.178 Just copy/paste those numbers, and the periods, where you normally would type http://www.pse.com and click Go or hit Return. If it works, there is either something wrong with your bookmarks or you're typing something wrong or you have corruption or malware at work. Assuming still no joy: How about Event Viewer? Start; Programs; Accessories; Adminstrative Tools; Event Viewer. Look in all 3 logs for Errors that might relate to this issue. Just in case it's malware at work, check your HOSTS file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS It's just a text file; open it with Notepad or Wordpad. Do NOT make any changes to it, or save it, unless you know what you're doing. See if any .pse URLs show up in it. If so, delete the entry and Save it AS A TEXT FILE ONLY! Do NOT save it as a .rtf file if you're using Wordpad! Notepad will only save in text format. IF there is nothing there, and there probably won't be, then it's still something else doing it. Come back with these results and we can go from there. There ARE trojans out there that can cause the symptoms you're getting. Have you run UPDATED antivirus and spyware scans recently as in the last week? If not, do so soon, and do so before you go into your bank account. UPDATE each of them before running them; that's very important. Let us know. HTH Pop` hostmas***@pse.com Rolling back to the previous version of my Netgear WPN311 adapter software
(1.2 vs 1.3) resolved this unusual problem where I could not access a handful of Web sites. Thanks, -Doug Sooo weird!!!
