Unable to access network shares after changing name of host computI have installed a new computer on a peer to peer Windows XP network, used simple file sharing, NTFS format on disks. All sharing worked perfectly could access any share directory from other machine on network. I then changed the name of the computer in control panel. You can see the computer and its shares but this immediatley stops access from the network and you get the message "XXXXX\\Dir is not accessible. You may not have permissions etc" and another line "Not enough Server storage to process this command" On the srver computer in the Event Viewer / System it creates an error report Event 2011 with the details "The servers configuration parameter "IRPStacksize" is to small for the server to use the local device. Please increase the size to 15" I looked at the MS Help and support and they advise how to increase it. however neither computer has the "irpstacksize" in the registry at the location. I have tried resharing the drives etc but nothing except reinstalling Windows will fix it. Any help would be appreciated as I am out of ideas. I haven't seen it happen from just changing a computer name. Did you change anything else at the same time? Is this the MS advice that you found on changing IRPStackSize? Antivirus Software May Cause Event ID 2011 http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;177078 That article says to look for the IRPStackSize value in this registry key, and to create the IRPStackSize value there if it doesn't already exist: HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters The server computer is the only one that needs the registry edit. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
