I have a wireless router that I wish to install wired using an ethernet
cable. The idea being that the first pc is wired and the rest are wireless.
The wireless is working on the first and subsequent PCs but not the ethernet
connection. I have plugged the ethernet cable into one slot on the router and
the other end into the networking slot on the back of the PC. What else do I
need to do? Grateful for help to what is undoubtedly a simple question.

Hi
You need to make sure that the wired computer Network Card (or Network slot
as you call it). Id install correctly and ready for action.
If your Wireless computers works OK with the Router the wired one should
work too, otherwise you need to read the Router's manual and set it as
needed.
How the check the Network "Slot"?
In General, you can debug the Network Settings of a computer by following
these steps.
Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer's Device Manager.
Make sure that the Network Card drivers are installed correctly; i.e. there
is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation.

Step Two. Verify Basic network setting in the OS:
