Does I have a faulty onborad NIC?Hi,
network with DHCP server. A win98 box,(as I attach the cable to another computer, the connection is OK. So, there is something with this box) Can't ping gateway but can receive reply by ping 127.0.0.1. there is no antivirus software or firewall installed and it's a fresh win98 system restored from ghost. The I assign it with static IP address(all configuration is correct, subnet mask, gateway, DNS), still can't ping gateway and can receive reply by ping 127.0.0.1. I think the possibility is that onboard NIC is faulty. Does there have any other possibility? Hannibal wrote:

If you did install the correct Win98 drivers for your hardware, then throw in a known-working PCI NIC. Disable the onboard NIC in the BIOS. You can get a PCI NIC for under $20USD so this isn't a big expense. Malke
