Networking without internetI have two almost identical computers running xp. I am trying to netwrok
them through a hub (no interenet present) I am using the network wizard on both but they are not communicating. Any suggestions? thank you, Els Hello ELS
If your using two computers not hooked to the net and only connected by a hub. 1) Open netowrk connections by going to start menu> control panel > network connections 2) Right click on local area connection > choose properties or double click it 3) This will bring up your local area connection status box click properties 4) Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) click properties 5) Select Use The Following IP Address 6) IP Address input 192.168.0.20 for one computer - Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 - Gateway - leave empty Click ok ...then ok again..your computers should be able to communicate For the other computer use something like 192.168.0.21 For use of private IP's addresses you can custom assign ip address using 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.255 ...usually 192.168.0.1 is used for Gateways no need to use that one. Do research on private IP addresses that you can use on a home network. This is one page giving a definition of private IP usuage and Private IP ranges http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_IP_address Thank you - I will try it
