Before broadband we had two machines here at home networked via a Cat5 cable
(that's what we call them in the UK). It worked well.

When we got Broadband we used the cable to connect both machines to a router
and share the connection ok.

Is it still possible to enjoy the facilities of networking - like sharing
printers and accessing each other's hard drives - I have not been able to
achieve this.

Any help appreciated,

Noel

Yes, it's possible.  It should work just like it did before you got
broadband and the router.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on each computer.  If the Wizard detects
the router's shared Internet connection, tell it to use that.
Otherwise, tell the Wizard that the computer connects to the Internet
through a residential gateway.

Make sure that any firewall program (Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm,
PC-cillin, etc) is configured to allow access by other computers on
the local area network.

Hi There,
I am having aproblem setting up my small home network.
I have a computer running XP. I have a NIC going to a switch which goes to a
wireless modem which allows me to use the internet OK.
When I use the Network Setup Wizard I select the connection  methode This
computer connects through a residential gateway which shows my Becom ISP.
I type next and get the message "Cannot complete the Network Setup Wizard"
When I use the "This computer connects directly to the Internet" option,
nothing appears in "View workgroup computers"
What do I need to do to connect the computers together in a home network
with access to the internet from each computer?
Yours Sincerely Stephen Grant Brown
