How do I confirm ports are open as between pc and xbox 360?Problem: WMP 11 is set to share with the xbox 360, which it sees on the network. However, the xbox 360 won't see my pc. When I Test Media Conneciton on the 360, it passes Network Adaptor ("Wired"), IP Address ("Confirmed"), and immediately fails at PC Selected. Otherwise, the 360 logs into xbox live with full functionality, and the NAT is Open (not Moderate or Strict). The PC is running XP service pack 2, set to automatically update, and does have Microsoft Net V2.0 installed. The wired network is very simple. Rogers cable modem, connecting to Dlink DI-604 router, running the latest firmware (3.52). The DI-604 is supported by Xbox. The router then connects with my pc on one port, the xbox 360 on the other. Running ipconfig /all, I get: Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.100 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 69.50.166.94 According to the 360, it's IP address is 192.168.0.101, same subnet mask and Gateway. I can't ping it from the pc, but apparently that's normal. The only firewall is the router; i.e. Windows Firewall is turned off. I do have Norton Anti-Virus 2005, but even after disabling the xbox won't see the pc. For the heck of it I opened up the UDP (1900, 10280-4) and TCP (2869, 10243) ports, though I assume that's between the router and the Internet and has nothing to do with the lan. Possibly important question: how can I determine / confirm the above UDP and TCP ports are indeed open? I once had Spybot / Ad Aware / Zone Labs on my system, and I'm wondering whether those ports are still closed. The very fact that the PC can see the Xbox, but not vice versa, I think will lead to a solution. Internet Connection Sharing is not turned on. Having just installed WMP 11, I don't have a DRM folder to delete (suggested in other threads). UPnP is enabled on my router. Any thoughts? I called Xbox support, and they couldn't help. Thanks in advance. Hello
If you would like to see what ports are actually open on your router and or your computer Visit this website http://www.grc.com/default.htm Scroll down to Shields Up. This will test for any open doors on your computer Hi Marbles,
All of the ports required for Xbox 360 media sharing (UDP 1900 & 10280-4, TCP 2869 and 10243) are all in stealth mode. But, I don't think their status as against the "internet at large" is all that important. My Xbox Live connectivity is excellent, it's just that I can't share media with my PC on the local network. Thanks though! If its only the router being used and all firewall programs are disabled. Try connecting to router and configure some zone parameters for your LAN. There should be options you can choose to fully open certain ports with usuage for particular programs that you use. Also try going in and assigning your pc a defined static server IP's. 1) First go in to the routers firmware and disable the router as being a DHCP server. 2) Open your network connections for your PC. Your LAN adapter connection or what ever it has been called 3) Click properties... then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) 4) Under the general tab make sure Obtain Ip Address Automatically is selected and for DNS servers select Use the following DNS server addresses Primary which is 69.50.166.94 and find out what the secondary DNS server is from your ISP and verify what is their primary DNS server as well. It's a good practise to input this information for the DNS servers manually in the TCP settings. Too often connections are lost to the net and one reason is that the Automatic settings for DNS servers loses it way sometimes and Gateway is the other factor. 5) Then click Alternative setup and select User Configed ...assign your IP address 192.168.0.100....Subnet 255.255.255.0...Gatetway 192.168.0.1 ..this would be the address you use to connect to routers firmware. For DNS leave blank for now and see if Xbox and PC can see one another and communicate ?...click ok..then ok What should happen is your computer will be able to obtain an IP address directly from your ISP while holding its own private internal network IP assigned by you manually. By disabling the router as being a dhcp server it should automatically contact your ISP DHCP server and then router will forward that info to your computers to be configured. There are programs on the net that you can d/l and are used to probe your network to test for which ports are open. You must get all computers and Xbox's on your homenetwork talking to one another first.. That's neat I didnt know Xbox has the ability to be used in conjunction with a PC..neato Hope this helps Hello again
After looking around I found this which might be a good resource for troubleshooting your XBOX connection. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/connectionmethods/router.htm Hopefully either soultions helps
