NO Browser - Errors - But have Internet Connection

I was given a Sony VAIO with Windows XP that had been on cable. It was full
of trackers and keyloggers, and junk it would not get past the start up
screen. Have Cleaned like crazy, but need to get on line to update the
programs and clean more.

But I cannot get online.   I put in a Ethernet Card. It shows ,it is
connected to my Ethernet Modem which is working as it should. The sever ran
thru all that and said it is working on my old computer, so their equipment
is okay. Period.

Computer says it is connected, I click a browser and get the no page error
message.  Ipconfig shows connection with just one number, I cannot release
and renew from cmd   The computer keeps saying it cannot renew the IPS
number.  Another time it said could not use 192.168.0.1 because of a conflict
in numbers elswhere in the computer  But where?

And we will not even discuss how it does not work with a router...

Any and all help is welcomed, Thanks in advance

If you just removed malware, the next thing to check is LSP / Winsock
corruption.
