Hi,

I have a weird problem that has just arisen on one of our desktop machines.

For some reason it will not ping one specific server, it will happily ping
all the other machines on the network ,exchange server, wins, dns and sql
server.

however it refuses to acknowledge that our app server exists now. When i try
to ping via ip address or name i just get back host not found.

I'm assuming it's a tcp/ip problem just not sure on how to fix it.

it worked fine before, it all went wrong after the pc crashed.

Have tried to get windows repair the network connection and tried a system
restore just to see what it would do, still the same problem occurs.

any help would be greately appreciated.

I would check the firewall first. This search result may help,

troubleshooting ping issuesSometimes, XP's built-in Firewall may enable after running network setup wizard on LAN connections. You can't ping or access the XP computer. ...

hi Robert,

I've checked windows firewall and that's currently disabled.

Re-patched it into another port and still same problem, swapped network
cables over with 2 machines. I've managed to isolate the issue on the pc
itself now.

for the life of me, I don't know how to resolve it, it's just so weird it
one ping or talk to one specific server now. It still has the mapped drive to
it, but now if i try and access it, get the message, host cannot be found or
you do not have sufficient permissions to access this contact your sys admin.

is there a netsh command i could use to reset it. i've run netsh int ip
reset resetlog.txt, that doesn't do anything. Ran Nbtstat -RR and still no
joy.

thanks

Can you ping the server by IP? Also can the server ping itself?
