Access to Program Filesall machines can get access to everything on all machines. Recently, we replaced our adminstative assistants machine which is the psudo file server. We renamed the machine to oldamin and the new machine admin. We can get access to everything on the new machine but cannot get access to program files on it. That's the only folder that we cannot access on the entire machine. The entire c drive is shared and also I tried to make the program files shared also but no luck. We have tried turning off simple file sharing but still not luck. I was getting great help from an MVP but have not heard back from him for a while now and thought I would try again. Below, I'm attaching our entire conversation and what we have tried. Thanks for anyones help. Charlie Halla Steve, I'm sharing the entire c drive on the office administrators machine. When I'm at any of the other machines and try to access the program files either through Network neighborhood or my mappings to that drive and try to get to program files I get the following error "F:\Program Files not accessible. Access is denied.". Strange thing is from any other machine, I can access any directory on the adiministrators machine except the program files directory. I have even made the program files folder a sharable folder but still no luck. From any machine in the office, I can access all other machines program files except for this one new dell. I'm running XP Pro, and NIS 2007. Then, un-share and re-share the whole C drive. If you still can't access Program Files over the network, compare the permissions on Program Files to the permissions on the C drive. To see the permissions, right-click the folder or drive, click Properties, and click the Security tab. Look especially at permissions for Administrators and Everyone. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups. Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Program http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Steve,
I've checked the permissions and they looked okay. I have not tried to unshare and then reshare. I'll give that a try today and let you know how it worked. From what I'd read, I didn't think it was
possible to share it and it work. I have the whole drive shared and full permission. I can't access any of our networked program files directories on our windows xp machines. Which is a real PAIN. a cannot access wrote: Show quoteHide quote > Steve, > > I've checked the permissions and they looked okay. I have not tried to > unshare and then reshare.
