OK, your lack of symmetrical / consistent access and visibility is another
version of the old browser / SMB problem, which is why I wrote my article.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html

And the best way to diagnose this problem, in my experience, is with "browstat
status" and "ipconfig /all" from both computers.  So read the articles (all of
them, and follow the links here and there and read the other articles), and post
diagnostics.

OK, here's where we are.

With XP Home, an "error 5", and "error 53", in browstat, is normal.  You can't
access an XP Home computer, to get server information.

>> > > > > >        Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast
You're using broadcasts to resolve names.  This is normal for small LANs.

>>     Unable to retrieve server list from PC: 64
This is NOT normal.  It suggests a problem with SMBs on PC.  Either a firewall,
or LSP / Winsock corruption.  SMBs are critical to broadcast name resolution
(and to other things).

that explains a ton.nforce is not on my lap top so thats way i think its one
way as stated in the links,i'll dive into that as instructed and post back my
results.thanks again,you've been a ton of help.oh,almost forgot.when i
downloaded that system tools from micro it did not include browstat and that
was why i could'nt get it to work.i downloaded it for the orther link and
copied it into program files, system tool which was now installed in the
path.opened the command window thru system tools and bang, worked like a
charm.might want to make a note of that.ok let me dive in.thanks again.
