i am trying to establish the above connection but i am finding all the
information is to do with huds ect and not just direct from one computer to
the other. can anyone help me. I have run the network wizard but still can
not seem to get things working.

When connecting two computers directly without a hub/switch/router, in
most cases you will need to use a special cross-cable.  Some of the
newer NICs will auto-sense and can be connected with a regular cable
but I don't rely on that feature.
