copying files over home network

Hi, I'm trying to move files from an old Desktop to a new laptop (both
running XP); I've
networked the two computers together, but drag and drop is VERY slow,
and error prone. I've got about 2Gb of data to move, is there an app I can
use to move these files over? Any info appreciated, thanks!

That is less than half of a full DVD.  Perhaps you should consider sneaker
net...

However, you really need to determine why the network copy runs so slowly.
With no more info than you gave, it is hard to draw any conclusions..
Howeve, I have found that copying a full backup of the windows drive on my
laptop to a folder on my desktop proceeds quite speedily.  And the backup
file is around 9 GB.

If you use Jabber (http://wiki.ursine.ca/Ursine:Jabber), you can send files
to yourself over the Jabber network.  I suggest Psi
(http://www.psi-im.org/) for a client as it's fairly feature complete and
makes it relatively simple to send a file to yourself on another computer.
