5+ seconds to open new tab!recently installed the latest version of Java. I would like to know if this behavior could be explained by: a: Java b: a registry setting related to IE c: virus d: malware If this is a virus or malware, then I will look elsewhere for help, but I figured I ask here if its due to java or another plugin or ActiveX control that could be slowing the browser down. One final note: After restarting Windows, if I open the browser and immediately click the address bar or search bar, or open the My Favorites menu, the focus on the browser is lost (causes the My Favorites menu to close, or the address bar or search bar deselected) and then focus is restored, so I have to open the menu again. Its like something takes control of the browser when it is loaded (like something is loading into it). Could this behavior be explained by a browser hijack? Really looking for someone to point me in the right "troubleshooting" direction. Thanks -- I''m still searching for the complete Windows XP user manual. ;) MindRiot wrote on Tue, 19 Dec 2006 20:00:01 -0800:

First disable all add-ons (click the cog wheel icon, go to Manage Add-ons, and choose Enable or Disable Add-ons), and see if it helps. If it fixes it, enable each add-on one a time, testing after each - hopefully you'll find the culprit this way. If disabling add-ons doesn't solve it then it's possible something outside IE is causing the problem - such as "security software" like a virus scanner or personal firewall. Dan MindRiot wrote:

However, for help with IE7 you should post in its newsgroup instead of here. The IE7 newsgroup is: microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general There are a huge number of posts so it would be smart to start by going to Google Groups Advanced Search. Use a search term that describes your problem, constrain the search to the IE7 newsgroup and the date to very recently. You can also check MVP Sandi Hardmeier's canonical IE7 site. Sandi has workarounds, known issues, troubleshooting, and links. This may be the only site you need. http://www.ie-vista.com/ And no, I'm sorry but I don't have your answer or I would tell you now. ;-) Malke Thanks for the replys everyone. :)
Yes, I browsed the IE newsgroup. I did run IE without add-ons and the problem went away, so its definitely an add-on. Below is a list of enabled add-on: SSVHelper Class BHO (Sun Microsystems) Sun Java Console Browser Ext. (Sun Microsystems) XML Dom Document - ActiveX (I think this is only enabled when I visit this site) Norton Antivirus - Toolbar (Symantec) Web Assistant - Toolbar (Symantec) ieSpell Browser Ext ieSpell Browser Ext CNisExtBho Class (Symantec) CNavExtBho Class (Symantec) Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper BHO Shockwave Flash Player - ActiveX Seems like a lot, but I would imagine most of them are necessary. The last add-ons to be installed was SSVHelper Class and Sun Java Console which were installed when I installed Java. That's when the problem began. It could also be that the add-ons for Norton Firewall and Norton Antivirus were added when updates were downloaded, don't know really. Would you recommend disabling any of those? I know the ieSpell isn't a problem, since everything, including Adobe was added after and the browser had no issues with ieSpell before those add-ons were added. Thanks for any help or advice.
